Cudos to the Indian Army for continuing to extend their full support and cooperation to the family post his departure. It is for this reason that I took a call to have the last rites of my son at Bangalore so that all members of his Battalion family could also be a part of the ceremony. I will always remain proud of my sons achievements and would continue to remain indebted to all members of his battalion for showering their unstinted support and providing the essential palliative care during his last days thereby making his departure a smooth, comfortable and memorable one. I humbly request all people trying to draw mileage out of such incidents to refrain from doing so and leave the bereaved family alone to tide over the insurmountable loss. While I am grateful to the almighty for having given us an opportunity to serve the nation through this wonderful organisation, which is probably the only organisation in the world which takes care of not only its soldiers but also their kith and kin right up to their final journey abode,but at the same time I feel appalled from the views expressed by a few people over social media tarnishing its image and utilising my son's death to gain media traction or fuel interservice rivalries which is neither warranted nor desirable at a time when the complete world is combating the covid-19 pandemic. I would also like to thank everyone especially the Indian Army for the positive support and response received during my son's fight against cancer and I am overwhelmed by the media response and excessive social media coverage honouring my gallant son's death.
I having served the Indian army am proud to be a part of this fraternity which took care of, every big or small requirement of my son, during his last few unfateful days. He was always proud of being a part of the Indian Army, an organization which is not just a profession but a way of life for us. My son Col NS Bal,SC, was a Para Special Forces officer, who left us for his heavenly abode on after serving his country with utmost bravery, courage, dedication, zeal and commitment.
